Poker Rules Introduction
The Reason behind Success. Is it Fate or Talent?
Whether accepted or not, Poker is still no doubt a gambling game, that engages skillfulness and not simple judgments but instead very smart decisions, bravery and a very critical observation, analytic study and most specially, a never ending luck. There always has been an argument which is so furious ever since poker has been around on how skillful a game it really is, or whether it is really a true gamble enclosed by the mystique of skill. It is also believed that there is actually no simple answer on this but confidently, there are reports that there is answer whether it is complicated or unsimple, without a doubt, far more luck in all forms of poker than most players would dare to confess. Indeed, it is also recognized, as a rough guide that poker is about 5 % skill and 95% luck. Players may or may not recoil at such a figure end, but if players can select their games accurately, players may be able to increase the skill factor on this game, such as 10% increase. But still, at the end of the day, cards is still cards and poker is still defined as none other than gambling.
Presently, there are millions of public citizens who regarded themselves as professional players. They have put a stake of around tens of thousands of hands online in a little portion of time; it took the old fashioned pros to gain their experience. This is also the reason why more and more solemn amateur players are dedicating much or all of their spare time to moving stealthily up in the rear of the pros, intimidating to take them down a peg or two. Plus an overabundance of civilized poker books, widespread television coverage and significantly increased prized monetary, players are now more engaged in this kind of nature. Considering the fact that to reach the ultimate table of a major tournament, it would requires huge quantities of luck, not just in a day but often over a period of several days or a week or more likely a luck over a year (which is quite next to impossible), but even with all that luck within the player, will still need abundant number of skill and determination to reach the dreamt tournament.
Players can actually expect over a period of time, even slowly to gain more profits if only they can make their skill factor count in a poker game. Playing poker for tiny stakes would gain profits slowly because they will be small. Playing for higher stakes and the profit would probably increase. Master the game expertly and strategically to be able to yield an income many of the world’s population can only dream of in playing higher stakes with higher winnings. On the other hand, and would suggest players to read this carefully, to become well-brought-up and professional at poker is a difficult task, the skill factor will never afford to give players with a consistent edge, luck will of course always manipulate game conclusions, sometimes luckily for long periods of time, and players must become a master of their own disposition before the hope of mastering the game would peep into players inner self. Would the players still up for the challenge despite of all the obstacles and considerable competitions?
The Basics Knowledge
Poker has been founded in the taverns of the Wild West as its origin and has probably the most variants of games. In this game, players played against players and not just against the dealer like in any other game such as Blackjack, and in here, there is a series of psychology involved during, before and after the game. As discussed awhile ago, it is said to be that poker takes a moment to learn and a lifetime to master.
Poker would be played from a standard deck of 52 cards. There are variant games that use multiple decks or would use Jokers or Wild Cards.
- Cards: The cards are ranked in descending order starting from the highest; Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, Ace. Ace can be both the highest and the lowest.
- Suits: The cards have four existing suits; spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs. All the suits have equal values, meaning no suit is higher than another.
- Hand: Every player has to deal a five card set which is called a hand. The hand with the highest in ranks would win the set.
- Wild Cards or Jokers: There are games that include wild cards or jokers, which can be any of the cards labeled whatever suit and rank the player wishes it to become.
- Ranks: 2,598,960 are the possible combinations of cards in a poker hand that players can deal. The ranking of poker hands starting from the best or the highest are as follows.

Poker Hand Description
The following poker hands would be the goal of the players to be acquired. It is presented from the highest to the lowest rank respectively.
- Five of a Kind is the highest achievable hand and only possible when using wild cards or jokers. The higher rank wins if more than one hand has five of a kind such as five Aces defeat five kings which defeat five queens, and so on.
- Royal Straight Flush is an Ace high straight-flush. It is the highest natural hand. It consists of Ace, King, Queen, Jack and 10 in the same suit. This exist only once per suit.
- Straight Flush is the best ordinary hand. A straight flush consists of five cards in series and of the same suit. The rule here is very simple, the higher the first card of the straight flush, the better the hand.
- Four of a Kind is a hand that encloses four cards of the same rank. The hand with the highest rank of four of a kind defeats other of the same poker hands. The best Quadra or four of a kind is A-A-A-A. By embracing four aces, players have all the aces in the deck. If there are many wild cards, as used in some game variants, there could be two four of a kind hands with the same rank. In this case, the hand with the higher ranking fifth card wins. This rule applies to hands that tie, such as a pair or two pairs.
- Full House is a hand consisting of three-of-a-kind and a pair. The rank of the three matching cards is the determining factor when deciding which full house are the winning cards. Again, where Wild Cards are used, ties are compared first by the three-of-a-kind ranking, then the pair.
- Flush is a hand consisting of cards that are the entire same suit in any order. A flush with Ace as the highest card beats a flush with King as the highest card.
- Straight is a hand consisting of 5 cards in sequence, such as 5-6-7-8-9. An Ace may either be high (A-K-Q-J-10) or low (A-2-3-4-5). The higher the straight, the better the hand. The high card in the straight determines its value. A straight with Ace as the highest card is the unbeatable.
- Three of a Kind is a hand parallel to the four of a kind hand, except that if the remaining two cards are a pair, then it becomes a Full House. Suit here has nothing to do in determining the winner as three of the same rank can never be duplicated.
- Two Pair is a hand that contains two pairs only. The pair with the higher value would determine the winning player, if it happens that both the players have the same higher pair, the next pair would be the tie breaker.
- Pair is a hand that contains one pair only. If it happens that two players have the same pair, the other three cards determine the winner. And if two players have identical hands, the pot is split evenly.
- High Card is a hand that is none of the above and is a weak hand. If no player has a pair or better, then the hand that contains the highest ranking card wins. If multiple players tie with the highest card, then the second highest card decides, followed by the third and so on.
Important Notes Regarding Wild Cards
- There are houses or online casinos that do not include Wild Cards or Jokers in any of their games. But there are some that uses these as an extra challenge to get the game more interesting for the players.
A wild card can be characterized as a joker or typical card that, by players’ agreement between dealer's choices, can be used to correspond to any card wished for. Wild card can be used depends on the game that the players are playing and its corresponding rules and regulations.
- A Joker can only be used usually as an Ace or to complete a straight or flush when it is played. In contrary to the fact that it cannot be used as a true wild card, for instance, as a Queen to make QQ86X play as three queens. When playing for little, the joker is converted into the lowest rank which is not already held, so 975AX is played as 975A2, with the joker used as a deuce.
- Wild cards include an additional hand, five of a kind, which customarily ranks above a straight flush. They can also cause mystification when two players hold the same hand composed of different wild card combinations. The standard rules of poker do not make a distinction between such hands, but some players have a preference to rank hands using not so many wild cards greater than less “natural” adaptations of the similar hand.
How to Play Poker / Poker Rules
Knowing the rules and regulations is very important for the players especially to those who are just beginners. No one would win the battle without knowing the process on how to fight. Here are some basic rules in playing poker. These are in general terms to avoid ambiguity in understanding the basic rules.
- Most of the games require players to gamble an ostensible amount just to have the cards to be dealt.
- On the occasion that the cards are dealt, the betting process begins. Players would put a stake into the pot in the center of the table and it should be done in a clockwise manner.
- The player, who would be able to show the highest rank, would be the first to speak and to lay a wager.
- That player can either bet or check. By saying the word “Check”, that player leave behind the decision and passes it to the next player who can also check.
- If all the players decided to check, then it is the conclusion of the round.
- Everyone opens their cards and the player with the highest hand would be announced as the winner.
- If a player places a bet, it’s the only time, the real betting begins.
- Each player who would be the next in turn can decide either to Call, Raise or Fold.
- Deciding to fold is to overtake or drop out of the round and forget about playing.
- Deciding to call means willing to counterpart the wage and the amount similar to the value of the stake must be placed on the pot.
- Deciding to raise means to match the bet and an additional extra bet is necessary.
- For example, a player starts with a $2 bet. If other opponent players raise $4, that player would put $6 on the pot in the middle of the table.
- When a round passes and the first player’s turn comes again that player needs to add $4 difference to the pot to be able to stay in the game.
- If the first player wants, he can also raise or even say 'Pot'.
- Deciding to raise Pot means rising to the maximum, which means to bet the same amount as the total money available in the pot.
- If it happens that there are no more raises and all the cards have been dealt, then it is the conclusion of the round.
- Every player opens their closed cards and the player with the highest hand wins the pot.
