Old man showing bible and reminds us to remember to be carefull when we gamble.Gambling Bible

What the Bible Says About Gambling?

Pardon this article for making a connection between gambling and a bible. Even a child has a concrete knowledge on how the two differs not only on their definition but also more importantly on the essence of both words.

We are all educated about the Bible, its relevance to our lives especially to the catholic people; it is actually one way of being part of the holy life while gambling is directly the opposite, the evil one, the bad thing, the unholy doings. There is no question on it that gambling is immoral whether it is allowed by the authority or not and even that gambling will be done for a good cause, still it is not good. One major reason is that gambling according to the religious individual is a theft, as gambling snatches money not only from the wealthy people but most especially to the un-wealthy ones, as the operators of gambling would not be uncertain on taking advantage to those players who are not that knowledgeable about the game that they would want to play.

There is immorality in gambling and it touches the lives of those who are inclined to it. The results of having a connection to it are defined extreme, whether it would destroy one’s life or give a life to the fullest, but the latter option is quite close to impossibility. The only technique thinkable of bringing home fortune is quitting while the player is still winning. Never chase loses and set a limit in playing.

But on the other hand, if we may analyze what life is, majority of the changes in our lives depends on how we make decisions and in this connection; we are actually gambling on what maybe the results of our decisions. Therefore, our lives itself is already a gamble. It always depends on us on how would we take our cards and deal with them. From the moment we were born, there is already a gamble on how would our parents would give birth to us, from being the childhood to adolescences, we always gamble in our lives every time we needed to create another phase on our lives. Of course the essence of gambling in here is different from the gambling that is pre-judged immoral. What we pertain here on this paragraph is the gamble of life, not gambling that requires betting and so on and so forth.

On this article, we would provide our list of the Bible Verses that suited best in connection to gambling. Please note that the chronology depends on the views and beliefs of the writer and has no connection to the editor or operator of this website. And most especially, we would like to advance an apology for those who were hit unintentionally by the verses and for those who believed that their beliefs were reciprocated in any way or whatsoever.

If we may reiterate, we are not condemning gambling in general or any forms of casino in particular on this article, as being a responsible website operator, we just would like to be fair and equal to the pros and cons of the ever famous word “Gambling”!

  1. Timothy 6:9 - but those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. Whether we accept it or not, people may intend to lose contentment on what things are those already on their possession, many of us would still wanted something that is more and more aside from what we have. And by doing this, people intend to do anything to plunge that thirst even if would hurt somebody else or himself. Therefore, the desire for more than what we can achieve in the right way could be disastrous to our very own lives.
  2. Proverbs 13:11 – Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it. Any assets or wealth that is achieved in a very fast and effortless way would be spent Bibletremendously but those pennies that were achieved by hard work even slowly would never have any other way but to increase. In simpler terms, anything on the top will goes down and anything on the bottom will simply rise up. But it still depends on the gambling winner for example on how he would use and spend the money he has won. It is just believed whatever the cause of gambling is still gambling so therefore still not good.
  3. Proverbs 28:22 – He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him. It is actually a warning that the wealth acquired through an unrighteous way would be ending up soon but those assets acquired through good works would definitely multiplied righteously. If let say that the money in your possession is through your job, you would definitely think a hundred times before spending it especially in a not so important matter, but if the money you would about to spend is just from the reward money of any gambling forms, it is easier to spend on things that is so necessary much.
  4. Ephesians 4:28 – Let him that stole steal no more, but rather let him labor, working with his hands the things which are good that he may have to give to him that needeth. - It is believed that gambling is a form of extortion, meaning getting money of any amount to the players without giving them the chance to regain it on the same manner. As the verse explained, any person leading a wrong way could still have turned their way to the right path and begin to live a cleaner life for he may get what he just needed for everyday lives in a right path also.
  5. Timothy 6:9-10 – For the love of money is a root of all kind of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. No other objective can be defined in gambling rather than hoping to win huge money. People who especially belongs to the lower class of the society have no other way (as what they believed) to change their lives in an instant. This is because they desire more money and they are willing to do whatever it takes to achieve their goal. Faith to god has been forgotten and so evil doings started. And if they realized that what they are doing is wrong, it’s becoming too late. To be able to run through your loses in gambling, you will begin to do something stupid that is quite unforgivable.
  6. Philippians 4:8 – Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think of these things. No matter what the cause of the goal of gambling, whether it is for entertainment and fun, no matter how the money acquired in gambling was spent, even if in good cause, and no matter the tense of the legality of the gambling form, it is still against God’s law. Because it is believed by those who reads the Bible enthusiastically, that there is actually no true, no honesty, no justice, no purity, no loveliness and no whatsoever good in gambling.
  7. Luke 16:13 – No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. No one can serve both God and money. Again, this is quite subjective but who am I to question the verses. As the real essence of gambling is money and serving God would require simplicity and purity, the two beliefs are extremely connected. There is no wrong on being rich as long as the wealth had been acquired through hard work and as long as those wealthy people are righteous and kind.

Of course there are a lot of verses that tackles goodness and warns on how to disengage oneself in a bad doings like gambling. What listed above are just verses that include greed on money and have a major relation to gambling. And again, the subject if we may reiterate is very subjective, the opinions and views written on the article may distract and may be concluded as antagonisms to others. But whatsoever is not intentional and just purely to add information to those who are interested.
